"Lady, you must watch out for this horse," Eugene Terre'Blanche said to me as I approached to photograph of him on the day he was release from prison in 2004.
He had served time for the assault of a petrol station attendant and a security guard.
Terre'Blanche was leader of the AWB, a radical rightwing militant group who were responsible for many bombings and terror attacks as South Africa embraced democracy.
Early reports state that Terre'Blanche was allegedly killed by his farmworkers after an argument over unpaid wages.
